I don’t think I need to tell you.

If you spend any time at all on the computer or social media channels of any kind, you know firsthand that a plethora of information concerning our identity abounds, and all of it can easily be found in the form of books, podcasts, blog posts, sermons, and graphics.

No, information is not what we lack.

Just a few keystrokes and we can find that we are prized by God and wonderfully made. Articles of all types assure us that we are a masterpiece, and that God sings over us. As well, beautifully designed graphics declare that we are daughters of the King.

Words straight from the Bible. Precious truths, every one of them.

But with our gaze on ourselves, truth or not, these words will have little effect.

No, information is not what we lack. What we lack is perspective!

In our search for identity (and the hoped-for transformation it will bring), we must get to the place where we take our eyes off ourselves and turn them to God.

Apart from God, these priceless truths cannot be properly perceived. There can be no true self-awareness, and therefore, little – if any – change.

Rather than looking for “who I am” because of me or for me, we need to be searching for “who I am” IN CHRIST.

Only with our gaze turned Godward, with a right and reverent awe of who He is, can we come to truly understand our identity.

In Christ, you are:

As you read these words from the Bible – these precious truths – do so with your eyes firmly transfixed on Him. (Try looking for what each passage tells you about God as you read.)
