Engaging the Scripture: Encountering God in the Pages of His Word

Chapter 5 – Read It!

Why is regular and consistent reading of the Bible so important?

First, it is vital that we read the Bible because there is a very real battle raging all around us.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Ephesians 6:12

Secondly, Bible reading is essential because God speaks to us through His Word. In the book of Hebrews, we read,

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

Hebrews 1:1-2

Thirdly, God wants a relationship with us. God wants a relationship with you. Reading the Bible at a deeper level than mere word call is critical because God loves you. In fact, God loves you so much that He gave His only Son for you:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Matthew 22:37
