The Annual 30-day Prayer Challenge for Grandparents

Sometimes, it does us a special kind of good to designate a specific time for focused prayer and to invite others to join us in it.

It’s hard to believe that our annual challenge begins in just two days (August 9, 2025). But even harder to believe is the fact that this will be our 10th observance! I know. Crazy, right? But it’s true. Our first ever Praying with Purpose 30-day Prayer Challenge for Grandparents began on August 13, 2016. That makes this challenge number ten!

For those who may be unfamiliar with our challenge, please allow me to answer a few questions.

What is the 30-day Prayer Challenge?

The 30-day Challenge is an opportunity for grandparents to be part of a community. One that is:

  • COMMITTED to praying for their grandchildren for 30 consecutive days.
  • UNITED in purposeful, intentional, and specific prayer.
  • Diligent in the work of holding one other ACCOUNTABLE in their commitment of intentional prayer.
  • Tireless in the task of ENCOURAGING each other in this eternity-impacting investment of prayer.

Why Commit to the Prayer Challenge?

There is no better gift, no greater investment, no more important work than that of prayer. Our prayers for our grandchildren help us be involved in their lives, serve to close geographical distances and generational gaps, stop Satan’s schemes and powers toward our grandchildren, and have an eternal impact on their lives. And that’s just to name a few of the benefits!

Prayers for our grandchildren certainly shouldn’t be limited to a particular event or a limited duration of time. We should be praying every day, all the time, no matter where. But sometimes, it does us a special kind of good to designate a special time for focused prayer and to invite others to join us in it.

Stepping into corporate prayer helps to hold us accountable, unites us with other like-minded people, and provides us the opportunity for sharing requests, prayers, and answers. Additionally, praying with others opens an avenue for the exchange of ideas and blesses those involved with the gift of encouragement.

When Does the 30-day Challenge Take Place?

Of course, you may take the Prayer Challenge any time you want, individually or with a small group of relatives, neighbors, or friends. However, the next corporate version of the Challenge (which can be accessed via our private Facebook group) begins Saturday, August 9, 2025 and culminates on Grandparents’ Day, Sunday, September 7, 2025.

How Does the Challenge Work?

The Prayer Challenge is flexible and includes several components. As such, it can be tailored to uniquely fit each participant’s personality and schedule.

As stated earlier, we will begin our corporate observance of the Challenge on Saturday, August 9th over in our private Facebook group. Each day of the Challenge a Scripture-based prompt will be posted. At your convenience, you can pull up the prompt and use it to inform your prayers for your grandchildren. Beyond this, the amount of your involvement in the Challenge is entirely up to you. There is no pressure. No one signs on the line! You may simply pray, knowing that other grandparents around the world are using the same prompts to pray for their grandchildren. Or you may share your thoughts on the prayer prompt or tidbits from your prayers in the daily threads creating community with other participants. Requests and answers to prayer are also welcome as we encourage one another and offer accountability. (Request to join the private Facebook group by clicking HERE.)

For those who prefer a physical copy of the daily prayer prompts, a Prayer Challenge booklet is available as a free PDF download. In addition to the 30 Scripture-based prayer prompts, the booklet contains:

  • An explanation of the Challenge.
  • Additional Challenge opportunities.
  • “Before the Challenge Begins” – Suggestions for preparation.
  • A list of activities for engaging with your grandchildren during the Challenge.
  • A resource list of connection points for receiving support during and/or after the Challenge.
  • A list of further opportunities for engaging with your grandchildren.
  • … and more!

And for those who want to journal their experience, the 30-day Prayer Challenge Journal is available, also as a free PDF download.

Your Personal Invitation

When it comes to our grandchildren, prayer is one of the most powerful things we can involve ourselves in. And the more praying grandparents joined together in the task, the better. Please join us this year as we come together in this 30-day intentional, concentrated prayer effort.

This is your invitation. We invite you to come, take the Challenge.

30-day Prayer Challenge Booklet (free PDF download) – Suggestions, ideas, and other helps for getting more from the challenge. Also includes a complete list of the thirty Scripture-based prayer prompts.

30-day Prayer Challenge Journal (PDF download) – A place to record your Prayer Challenge journey which may include your thoughts, reflections, prayers, etc.
